1994 Holy Trinity graduate Nate Millerbernd will cap off his football career with two bowl games.
Millerbernd, a senior at South Dakota State University, will play in the All-American Bowl, for Divisions II and III Saturday, Dec. 20 at the HHH Metrodome in Minneapolis. Game time is 6 p.m.
His second bowl game is the Snow Bowl, Division II, on Jan. 10 at 2 p.m. in the Fargo Dome in Fargo, N.D.
The bowl games will give Millerbernd the chance to be seen by the pro scouts who will be in attendance.
Millerbernd is a wide receiver for SDSU, and has started every game since his sophomore year, a total of 31 games.
He had nine catches for 202 yards and two touchdowns against Mankato State in 1996; nine catches, 173 yards, and three touchdowns vs. North Dakota State University in 1997; a 75-yard touchdown reception with four minutes left vs. USD in the 1996 Cereal Bowl to gain the conference lead at 5-0 in the NCC; and caught four touchdowns longer than 50 yards in 1996.
This year, he was voted as tri-captain. Head Coach John Stiegelmeier said Millerbernd's leadership is essential to the team. "(He leads) more by example than verbal. He's very respected by other players on the team."
Millerbernd has racked up an impressive record at SDSU:
Stiegelmeier also pointed out Millerbernd's ability to make the big play.
"Nate's our game breaker. He has proved himself as a big-play maker and has the unique skill to break one any time he touches the ball," he said.
Over the last four years, Millerbernd has earned several awards:
Millerbernd will graduate from SDSU next December
with a business/economics degree.
