Road construction begins April 27 along the Highway 12 corridor in Wright County between Bridge Avenue in Delano and County Road 110 west of Montrose, according to Minnesota Department of Transportation.
A detour for thru traffic for most of the project limits will also go in effect today. The detour is via County Road 30 out of Delano and Trunk Highway 25 into Montrose. Highway 12 west of Montrose to County Road 110 will be open to thru-traffic.
Highway 25 between Buffalo and the east junction with Highway 12 east of Montrose will be closed to thru-traffic as well this construction season. Motorists will be directed to use Wright County Road 12 again this year between Buffalo and Highway 12.
Highway 25 itself will not be under any construction, but the 1 1/2 mile segment between the east junction of Highway 12 and the east city limits of Montrose will be under construction.
That portion of Highway 12 is being re-aligned to the north in addition to the construction of a new railroad bridge, which would be extremely difficult to build with any kind of traffic on the roadway.
Changeable message boards and other signing will go up this week to give advance notice to motorists using this portion of Highway 12 and the soon-to-be detour routes.
Access to homes and businesses within the construction limits must be available or maintained by the contractor.
Work on the $9.4 million highway improvement project went from June to November last year. About one-third of the project is left to complete this construction season with a tentative finish in September.
