Not even local traffic will be allowed on Highway 12 west of Howard Lake once a detour goes into effect Monday, July 13.
All traffic will be blocked off at 13th Avenue at the west edge of Howard Lake.
Traffic coming from the west will be sent south on Wright Co. Rd. 5 from Highway 12 to Co. Rd. 30 to the east.
Then, traffic will be sent north to Highway 12 at Co. Rd. 6 into Howard Lake.
The intersection of County Rd. 6 and Highway 12 in Howard Lake will have a three-way stop.
At that point and several other places, signs will be placed to indicate the local businesses are open and accessible.
It is planned to place these signs in a many places as possible, said City Administrator Christina Frankenfield.
The Howard Lake City Council will discuss signage issues for the business community at its Tuesday, July 7 meeting.
Frankenfield said the Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) plans weekly meetings for anyone with access problems, starting July 7 at 1 p.m.
These meetings will take place in the construction trailer at the edge of Cokato at 1 p.m. each Tuesday.
The detour is expected to remain in effect most of the summer.
