1997 growth and progress in Winsted and Lester Prairie

Winsted
As in past years, Winsted continued its steady growth with
new homes, businesses and the expansion of existing businesses.
New businesses in 1997 were:
- The Chicken Barn Restaurant owned by Mark Ollig
- Total Entertainment owned by MIke VanerLinden
- Unique Arts and Crafts owned by Art and Ann Mallek
- Chilson Funeral Home owned by Kevin Chilson
- Radtke's 261 Bait and Tackle owned by Dan and Charlene
Radtke
- E & C Systems owned by Len Cochran
- County 1 Designs owned by Marilyn Gatz
- Marvin Vetch and Tim Walter opened Hometown Mortgage
- First Light Photography and To The Letter Writing Services
owned by Maggie Schuette-Voss.
Other businesses in Winsted expanded:
- Glenn Kuck completed the addition to Glenn's Supervalu
- Joe and Natalie Caouette purchased Jimmy's Pizza, remodeled
and added on to the restaurant
- Chip Guggemos joined IDS Financial Advisors
- Mark Seaberg joined Community Bank Winsted
- the Winsted Funeral home was remodeled and the building
resided
- a third drive through lane was added and Community Bank
Winsted
- Scherping Systems was purchased by Walker Stainless and
an addition was added to the building
- Winsted Publishing began designing web sites.
Some businesses remained the same but were purchased by
new owners:
- Brian (Woody) Langenfeld purchased Keg's Bar
- Bailey's Tavern and Grill was purchased by KimKent Enterprises
The city had its own projects:
- sewer and water was brought out the south of Winsted
for the planned industrial park
- several homes, Millerbernd Manufacturing and Millerbernd
Design were annexed into the city
- Internet service was installed at the public library
- a referendum was passed to build a new fire hall
- the city's World Wide Web site made its debut.
Lester Prairie
Growth and progress highlights in Lester Prairie were:
- the starting of Phase II of Prairie Meadows addition
led the economic growth in Lester Prairie in 1997
- Lester Prairie Schools began a serious look at their
long term planning. The district hired consultant Don Christensen to help
with the planning process
- Prairie Hydraulics was sold and renamed Central Hydraulics
- Betty Workman joined Miriam Rahn Accounting
- Ralph's Oil observed its 25th year in business.
