Sr. Jean and Sr. Emmanuel celebrate a golden jubilee

On Sunday, April 26, Holy Trinity Parish celebrated the golden jubilee of Sr. Jean Becker, who was received as a School Sister of St. Francis in Milwaukee, on June 13, 1948, and Sr. Mary Emmanuel Fallenstein, who was professed as a School Sister of Notre Dame in Mankato on July 17, 1948.

Sr. Jean was born in Faribault. Her family moved to a farm between New Prague and Union Hill when she was eight years old. Sr. Jean graduated from New Prague High School in 1947 and entered St. Joseph Convent in August, 1947.

She received her bachelor of science degree in education from Alverno College and a master's degree in administration from Clarke College, Dubuque. She taught grades two through eight for 23 years and was principal for 26 years.

She has been Pastoral Minister at Holy Trinity Parish since 1991.

Sr. Mary Emmanuel was born and raised in Mankato. She graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel Academy High School and went on to attend Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, and continued with graduate studies at Mount Mary College and St. Mary's Notre Dame in South Bend.

Sr. Mary Emmanuel taught first and second grades for 37 years at various schools in Iowa, South Dakota, and mainly, in Minnesota.

She also served as Transportation Coordinator for the Motherhouse in Mankato for five years.

She became a trained medical nursing assistant and worked in the Board and Care Department at the Regina Medical Center in Hastings.

Currently, Sr. Mary Emmanuel is doing Pastoral care for the sick and elderly in Winsted.
