Dr. Michael McCarthy, a family practice physician, has
joined the staff of Glencoe Medical Clinic.
Glencoe Medical Clinic also operates Lester Prairie Medical
Clinic and Winsted Medical Clinic.
Originally from the Arlington-Green Isle area, McCarthy
graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine and completed
his residency through the University of Minnesota Family Practice Clinic.
After practicing at the Arlington Clinic from 1984-1994,
he practiced occupational medicine at the Mankato Clinic in Mankato, Minn.;
also serving as the medical director of Immanuel St. Joseph’s Hospital Chemical
Dependency Unit in Mankato.
“While practicing occupational medicine, I came to
realize how much I missed general family practice medicine and the wide
age range of patients,” McCarthy said. He is also excited about the
opportunity to work with chemical dependency patients in Waverly twice a
month.
In his spare time he likes to write, both short stories
and poems. He has had three short stories and one poem published in various
medical journals.
McCarthy will succeed George Vuckovic, P.A., who is moving
on to another practice opportunity.
“We are pleased to have Dr. McCarthy join the Glencoe
medical community. He will be a fine addition to our staff,” Tom Bettendorf,
Glencoe Medical Clinic adminstrator noted. “We also wish George the
best of luck in his new endeavor,” he added.
