Museum not ready, but first tour comes through
By ANDREA VARGO
Someone said, "If you build it, they will come." Well, it isn't built, but the first request for a tour of the Hubert H. Humphrey Museum has arrived.
The museum hosted its first tour last week without a museum, Director Irene Bender told the Waverly City Council Tuesday.
Even though the group knows there is no actual museum yet , they wanted to tour Waverly and the site for the future museum, she said.
Included on the tour were the old village hall, site of the future museum, two churches in Waverly, a walk through the downtown, and a stop at Angela Lachermier's shop, What Next.
Bender gave an update on the progress of the museum plans, and said architects are giving information and comments on the requirements for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and environmental control issues.
She said the museum hopes to start fund development soon.
