Youth gun club has success at nationals

The Waverly Gun Club took eight youths to the Grand National Trap Shoot at Vandalia, Ohio in August.

Their coach, Len Schlief, and chaperones Gary Scheuble, John Krattenmaker and Marlene Murphy said the young men and women represented their community and the Waverly Gun Club very well.

The gun club supports an active youth program. They start their training in May, and end at the Minnesota State American Trap Association Shoot in St. Cloud in July. There is no charge to the youth to participate.

The Buffalo American Legion, Howard Lake American Legion, Wright County Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs, and the Delano Snow Stormer Snowmobile club helped to support the youth program.

The club's rifle range is open Friday and Saturday, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 for the hunting season. The winter league will begin Thursday, Dec. 3. Space is still available.

The youth program's participants and parents are having a youth pork chop dinner at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Waverly from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 1. The cost is $5.50 and all proceeds go to the Waverly Gun Club Youth Program. Tickets may be purchased in advance from participating youth.
