Where is Wright County's biggest tree?

Wright County residents located the county's largest known basswood at 17 feet, 1 inch in 1997, and they found the county's largest known oak at 13 feet, 8 inches in 1998.

The 1999 Wright County Tree Contest will focus on locating the largest Wright County ash tree. The winning ash tree can be of any ash species.

If you think you know where the largest ash is located, take a few minutes to measure your contest entry.

Measure the tree's girth 4 1/2 feet up from ground level. Multi-stemmed/split trunks are disqualified, as are galls formed due to fences, etc.

Send your measurement, along with your name, address, telephone number and the exact location of the tree, by Friday, Oct. 15 to Wright Soil and Water Conservation District Office, 306C Brighton Ave., Buffalo, MN. 55313.

The winning entry will receive a gift certificate to a Wright County restaurant and a beautiful walnut laser cut plaque to commemorate their effort.
