Basic Standards Test results for area schoolsHoward Lake-Waverly-Winsted (HLWW) eighth graders posted better numbers this year in the basic skills tests than last year, according to information released last week by the Department of Children, Families, and Learning. Eighty one percent of the eighth graders at HLWW passed the math test, and 77 percent passed the reading test, which places the HLWW students a little higher than the state average in math and a little lower in reading. Test results show that 71 percent of the state's eighth graders passed the math test, and 80 percent passed the reading test. Other schools in the area had scores of:
