City of Howard Lake starts cable TV show

Howard Lake Public Access Television recently began a new program offering.

The one-hour show, "Your City," made its debut made its debut last week and was repeated April 29 and May 2.

The program is hosted by Howard Lake Mayor Gerry Smith. smith said the purpose of the series is to "inform Howard Lake citizens about city government and city issues."

The first program dealt with the decisions the school district has to make about building a new high school. Smith said that this issue is of "major importance" for the students of Howard Lake. During the program Smith states the city's position for retaining the high school in Howard Lake.

"The citizens will eventually vote on a bond issue for this building program," he said, "and the best decision can only be made with a knowledge of all of the facts."

The program is produced by David Peterson, a student at Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted High School. Peterson, a National Honor Society member, will receive school credit for this work with Public Access TV. Many hours of planning had to go into this work, he said. It's important that the maps, charts, and other graphics get added at the proper times.

"Your City" will be produced on a quarterly basis, unless special needs arise that citizens have to know about, Smith said.

Other groups and organizations that wish to produce similar programs are welcome. Call 320-543-2222 for more information.
