State Mickey Mantle baseball tourney coming to Howard LakeThe 1999 Mickey Mantle State Baseball Tournament will be in Howard Lake over the next couple weeks. All games will be at Memorial Park in Howard Lake, across from the Wright County Fairgrounds. Some of Minnesota's best 15- and 16-year-old boys will compete. A full concession service will be provided. No coolers or alcohol are allowed. The Howard Lake Mickey Mantle team has an automatic berth in the tournament as host. Game times are set as follows, but pairings have not been announced since some teams were still qualifying over the weekend after the Herald went to press. Winsted's team qualified for the tournament in playoffs last week. Round 1

The tournament will be played under the American Amateur Baseball Congress double elimination format. Ticket prices are adult $3 per day, youth (16 and under) $1 per day, senior citizens $1 per day, and children 5 and under are admitted free. A pass for the entire tournament is $10. Howard Lake fields are tobacco-free. |
