Joe Miller receives Lions' high award

By Robert Niederkorn

The Lester Prairie Lions, at their annual awards dinner on Thursday, June 10 presented the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award to Lion member, Joe Miller.

This is the highest recognition given to a deserving Lion by the Lions International Organization. Miller was selected based on his long involvement in civic and school affairs, which included teaching, coaching, and administration; and also for his involvement in many Lions' activities.

Many other awards were also presented at the dinner meeting. Among those were certificates of appreciation, presented to members of the community who are not Lion members, but whose contributions to community, school and church are worthy of recognition. This year's recipients were David Baumann, Judy Angvall, and David Klitzke.

Receiving a past president's pin was Earl Machemehl, who just completed his year as Lion President. The presentation was made by his immediate predecessor, Lion DeRoyce Monroe.

Other awards included perfect attendance and special recognition by the local club for members who have been significantly involved in club activities. These individuals included Ralph Machemehl, Paul Mohwinkel, Charlie Suedbeck, Roger Weiland, and Mark Rath.

Vest patches were also presented to past officers, and current officer patches were given to the newly elected club officers, who will assume duties beginning in July.

Next year's Lion President is James Redfield.
