HLWW one act play wins section competition
The 1999 State One Act Play Festival will showcase the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted (HLWW) offering, "The Nine Dragons," by David Rogers, Thursday at the College of St. Catherine's O'Shaughnessy Auditorium in St. Paul.
Sixteen class A and AA schools will perform during the two-day festival with class A schools appearing Thursday and class AA schools scheduled for Friday.
Although each performance will be judged and publicly critiqued, this is not a competition, it is a festival.
Cast and crew will attempt to achieve an exceptional rating known as a starred performance.
The play can be no longer than 35 minutes, and the crew can take no longer than 10 minutes to set up for the performance.
Total cast and crew can not exceed 20 students.
HLWW has appeared at the festival nine times with starred performances in 1976, '79, '80, '88, '92, and '97.
The troupe is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, and the public is invited to attend. Admission is $2 for a two-play session. O'Shaughnessy Auditorium is located at 2004 Randolph Ave., St. Paul.
