Grand opening for Lakeside Salon Dec. 18

By Andrea Vargo

Sun shines through the arched glass door on Sue Leaf, as she sits on one of the chairs reserved for customers of her newly opened Lakeside Salon in Waverly.

Leaf is an experienced hair stylist, and one of the many advantages of owning her own business is the ability to cater more to the customer's needs, said Leaf.

She is available when people need her, and she can be around for her children at the same time, she said.

Leaf, whose brother owns the Landscape Depot in Montrose, moved to Waverly over a year ago to be closer to her family.

She grew up in Delano and is familiar with the area. Waverly seemed like a good place to live, and she and the children love living right next to the park, she said.

Tired of working 12-hour days, weekends, and not having much time for her children, Leaf left a Minnetonka salon to strike out on her own.

With 11 years of experience and some new equipment, Leaf turned the back of her home into a cheery salon, where customers can feel comfortable.

It wasn't quite that easy, though. Along the way, Leaf had to get her manager's license and needed to have her facility inspected and licensed by the Minnesota Department of Commerce.

She has purchased a full line of hair care products for her customers, and will give some of those products and some services away in drawings during her grand opening Saturday, Dec. 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Leaf plans to serve refreshments and offer discounts on gift certificates and hair care products that day only.
