State will study LP school's financial condition
By Jane Otto
The board will have the Department of Children, Families, and Learning (CFL) do a financial analysis of its books.
The state department will look at a few past years, the current budget, the upcoming budget prior to its approval, and also take into consideration the local demographics for the next two or three years.
Along those same lines, the board may have Roger Worner, consultant for CFL, perform a management assistance study. The study, Supt. James Redfield said, will provide an analysis of cooperative efforts with surrounding schools and where the best choice would be.
What Worner would do is look at what the end result would be if Lester Prairie would cooperate with another district, considering the whole gamut such as staff, curriculum, transportation, etc.
Redfield said Worner will send a proposal with costs, a time line, and more specifics as to what it is he will do.
"The big thing you get out of this is credibility," said Redfield.
Regarding cooperation, Redfield mentioned a letter board members received from Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted (HLWW) Supt. Riley Hoheisel. Hoheisel said the HLWW district is interested in resurrecting a cooperation discussion between the districts.
Board member Barry Kyllo suggested the board inform Hoheisel of its plan to have a management assistance study done and ask if the district would be open to that and cooperate with Lester Prairie in this effort.
Board Chair Chester Hoernemann suggested it should notify other districts as well.
