Brothers open new car repair shop in Howard Lake

By Lynda Jensen

Decades of experience are behind a new repair shop, Howard Lake Auto Repair, opened last week by two brothers, Warren and Bill Dell.

The Dells have more than 30 years of experience each in the auto repair business and plan to specialize in tune-ups, oil changes, computers, cooling systems, front end repair, brakes, and exhaust work.

The new shop was formerly a Howard Lake car wash, located across the street from the Good Samaritan Center.

The Dells are relatively new to the area, although many people probably know Warren and Amy's sons, Blaine, and Jeremy, 21.

Blaine is a third grader at the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted school district. The couple moved to Howard Lake seven years ago.

Bill and Beverly Dell have three children: Jennifer, 21, Jacklyn, 18 and Jonathan,16. They live in Greenfield, by Loretto, which is about 20 minutes away, he said.

Both men are ASE-certified technicians.

Warren spent 31 years working for an auto repair business in Golden Valley.

Bill spent more than two decades working for Sears as a mechanic and service manager of the Minnetonka store. He also spent another seven years working for Amoco in Golden Valley.

In the military, Bill worked as a diesel auto mechanic for the Marines for two years. He also attended school for jet mechanics in Thief River Falls.

For both of them, the friendliness of a small town is refreshing and something new.

"It's shocking when people say 'hi' to you because they know you," Warren said. It's nice, he added.

Howard Lake Auto Repair is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Its phone number is (320) 543-0199.
