'Lake Day' set for June 23
By Tom Hammer
Those who live along a lake, or are interested in the areas lakes and rivers, may want to think about attending Lake Day, a one-day seminar in June at St. John's University.
Central Minnesota Lake Day 2001 is a four county educational event focused on the preservation of surface water quality in Benton, Sherburne, Stearns and Wright counties.
The Lake Day event is in its seventh year. This year, there will be 12 different educational sessions, ranging from lakeshore landscaping and controlling lake weeds, to boat and water safety.
There will also be a couple of hands-on events. The DNR will be conducting fish netting demonstrations and the MPCA will demonstrate water quality testing.
The event will also feature keynote speaker Gunner Isberg, author and planning consultant. Isberg has experience in environmental planning and management, farmland protection, and strategic planning in metropolitan and rural counties of Minnesota.
Pre-registration is encouraged, but not required. The pre-registration deadline is June 15th. Cost is $5, either in advance or at the door.
Numerous door prizes will also be given away, such as a trolling motor, an ice auger, and a framed wildlife print. Only those who pre-register are eligible for the door prizes. A raffle will also be held for an authentic signed Randy Moss jersey.
If you would like more information, call the Sherburne County Extension Office at 1-800-433-5236 or 763-241-2720.
