By Lynda Jensen

A young snowmobiler crossing County Road 6, Middleville Township, was struck by an oncoming car at 1:20 p.m., Dec. 29.

Brett Ryan Relander, 12, Howard Lake, sustained multiple injuries when his snowmobile was struck by a car driven by Daniel Jay Dolan, South Haven.

Relander was thrown from the snowmobile. He was transported by ambulance to Buffalo Hospital and then airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center.

He was initially listed in critical condition.

Theodore Relander, Brett's father, reported that Brett's condition is improving. Brett is expected to recover from his injuries, he said.

Immediately prior to the accident, Brett Relander was driving along a state-marked trail when he stopped his snowmobile at a posted stop sign, according to the accident report.

Dolan was driving southbound in a white '91 Dodge Dynasty. He was not injured in the accident.

Investigation by the Wright County Sheriff's office concluded that the young snowmible driver drove into the path of the automobile while attempting to cross the roadway.

No criminal charges are pending.
