Dinner, dance set for NY families at the Waverly Village Hall Dec. 8
By Lynda Jensen
Live music from four different groups and a chicken dinner will be part of a huge benefit planned at the Waverly Village Hall from 2 p.m. until midnight Saturday, Dec. 8.
All of the proceeds will be sent to the Widows and Children's Fund of the Uniformed Firefighters Association of New York, said Joe Hausladen, co-coordinator of the event.
Several different local organizations are involved with fund raiser, including the Waverly and Montrose fire departments, the Delano Jaycees, the Lakeside ABATE of Buffalo, and the Montrose General Federated Women's Club, as well as donations given by the Waverly Lions, Hausladen said.
Events included are:
· 2-4:30 p.m. Children's games and face painting.
· 2-7 p.m. Bake sale.
· 4:30-5:30 p.m. Music by strolling accordionist Bill Konkar.
· 4:30-7 p.m. Chicken dinner.
The cost is $6 for adults, and $4 for children. There is a combined dinner and dance cost, which is $10, or $5 for the dance only.
Music will play throughout the dinner, by Shakespeare's Lovechild, Konkar, and Swingset, an acappela swing group, Hausladen said.
· 7:30 p.m. Honor guard ceremony, by Charlie Borrell, Waverly.
· 8 p.m to midnight. Live rock and roll music by the Crow River Band.
Also through the day will be a silent auction, which will feature a package from the Medina Entertainment Center, a framed print from Delano Floral and Gifts, a homemade quilt by Mary Millerbernd, and many other gifts that are still being gathered.
The silent auction also features a ride on a semi truck donated by Brady Trucking of Montrose.
A raffle will be conducted by the Montrose-Waverly Chamber of Commerce.
Prizes at the raffle include $500 worth of air vouchers from Omni Travel of Minnetonka, and a show at the Illusion Theater in Minneapolis, Hausladen said.
Meyer Brothers Dairy is donating milk, and the City of Waverly is granting free use of the Village Hall. Bernick's Pepsi will be donating pop to help raise funds, he said.
The area royalty plans to attend as well.
Tickets are available at the Citizens State Bank in both Waverly and Montrose, the Howard Lake-Waverly Herald office, and the Crow River State Bank of Delano.
An account was set up at the Citizen's Bank in the name of the Widows and Children's Benefit Fund, with checks to be made out to this account, Hausladen said.
