New hair salon open in Winsted Blades
By Julie Yurek
Lifestyles and hairstyles are matched together at Winsted's newest hair salon open for business, Blades.
Blades owner Jill Fiecke opened her doors Nov. 26. The business is located in her home at 410 Zion Avenue in Winsted.
"I would like to provide the area with the newest trends and help people choose the best hairstyle for their lifestyle," Fiecke said.
"I try to learn about customers' lifestyles and what they do and don't want to do with their hair."
For example, some people don't want to use a curling iron or hairspray, so Fiecke offers them hairstyles that don't require those products, she said.
She offers hair care for the whole family such as cutting, styling, coloring, perming, highlighting, and eyebrow waxing.
She has been in the cosmetology field for many years. "I love it," Fiecke said.
Fiecke attended St. Cloud Beauty School. After graduation, she worked at Regis in Hutchinson for four years, and then spent the next 10 years working at Image Makers in Chaska. The last three years she was employed at Donna's Salon in Howard Lake.
During those years, Fiecke attended many advanced classes in cutting, coloring, and perming, she said.
The name Blades was chosen because Fiecke always liked the name for a salon. A friend of hers, who also happened to be a coworker of hers, opened her own salon in Norwood with the name Blades, Fiecke said. "I just really liked that name."
The friend later moved to Arizona, so Fiecke picked up the name.
Three years ago, Fiecke and her husband, Marvin, built a new house and decided to save a room in the basement for a salon, she said.
The flexibility of being self-employed allows her to stay active in her family's activities and still have a career.
The Fieckes have a 4-year-old son, Trey.
Blades' hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 1 to 8 p.m. The phone number is (320) 485-2166.
