Lester pool's diving boards may have to be removed

By Julie Yurek

Diving boards may not be at the Lester Prairie pool next summer.

The park board is recommending the removal of the boards to the city council, said park board member Rose Halloran.

"The configuration of the pool floor is not safe. The park board has discovered that the bottom of a pool should be a certain length from the diving board, and the city's is not configured properly," Halloran said.

"It is about safety issues. A new pool would have the correct configuration," she said.

"The park board needs to look at what it can afford to do for the pool, like a slide, and whether the money can be raised. It's not in the budget this year," Halloran said.

The board hopes the community will do some fund raisers to help raise money for the pool, she said.

"If the community wants to keep a pool, it's going to have to replace the old one in the next couple years," she said.

Expensive repairs on the pool have made it hard to put money away for a new one, Halloran said.

A decision could be made at the city council's next meeting Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m., Halloran said.
