Fogartys open real estate business

By Lynda Jensen

Following more than a decade of working with other real estate agencies, Dan and Collene Fogarty of Howard Lake decided it was time to strike out on their own.

As a result, Good Neighbor Realty, located at 606 Eighth Avenue in Howard Lake, opened Jan. 1.

"We wanted to do it for some time," Collene said.

This is the first time that the Fogartys have been in the real estate business for themselves, instead of with a different agency.

Previously, they both worked for Lakes Area Realty for more than two years, which was a good relationship, Collene said.

However, the Fogartys felt it was time to open an office of their own, she said.

Earlier, the Fogartys worked for Edina Realty at Buffalo for 11 years.

Many area residents are familiar with both Dan and Collene as licensed Realtors. The Fogartys own Fogarty Auction Service, which is a long standing business.

Dan is an experienced auctioneer, and Collene is a broker. They have experience in residential, commercial and agricultural properties.

Dan started working as an auctioneer in 1979, he said. He remembers his first auction on his own was for Lester Zarling, April 7, 1979.

Dan received an award in 1998 for his service as director of the Minnesota State Auctioneers Association.

Collene remembers doing business on the kitchen table, she said.

"You never get bored," Dan said. Working with people is what makes the business so rewarding and interesting, Collene added.

Nowadays, the real estate business has become more complex, although the Internet and digital technology are making some things easier, too, they said.

The future is bright, since Fogartys are expecting to take advantage of the increase of people moving west following the completion of Highway 12, she said.

The telephone number of their new business is (320) 543-2100.
