Hatch Group to sell Grass Lake lots
By Ryan Gueningsman
Plans are moving full steam ahead for the Grass Lake Farm residential development just west of Winsted.
Thirty nine lots are being planned as the first phase, and are expected to be completed soon, with the remaining 111 lots to be part of a four-year project.
The homes that are going up are all single-family homes, varying in cost from the mid-$150,000 range to upwards of $250,000.
"Our ultimate goal is to provide an extremely competitive price, but still very high quality product, and trying to beat everybody in the area as far as price," said builder Tony Matczynski of the Hatch Group.
Grass Lake Farm is a joint venture between Bridgeland Development Company of Lakeville, and Richard J. Elsen Construction from Champlain, and will be marketed by Matczynski and the Hatch Group.
"It's a joint venture," Matczynski said, "and all the homes are going to be built by a cooperative team."
In the past, the cooperative has built homes in the range of $350,000 to a million-plus.
"What we're trying to do here is mass-produce a high-quality product at a inexpensive price," he said.
"The City of Winsted does not have anything available, as far as construction, and everything around it does." Matczynski said. "Yet Winsted is growing faster population-wise compared to those cities which is a pretty neat thing."
"I'm happy to see more options for people in and around Winsted," said City Administrator Brent Mareck. "Now they have Grass Lake Farm and Winsted on the Lake. There are more choices, and people can see what a great community we have."
