Lange benefit is big success
By Lynda Jensen
Several hundred people attended the benefit for Troy and Susie Lange Aug. 25.
The benefit raised about $20,000, which will help offset the substantial costs of rebuilding a new house for the Langes, estimated at $150,000 (including a retaining wall for the house).
The Langes are still paying the existing mortgage on the old house, which was destroyed, except for its outer shell.
"We're very, very thankful," Troy Lange said, stressing that the effort was made by several committed people, and not just one single person. A large group of people met every week before the event, to make sure it went well.
Many people in the community donated or went out of their way to help the effort along.
Serving began at 12:15 and continued until 3 p.m., said volunteer Kirk Jensen. The line went all the way past the parking lot at Memorial Park, he said. About 750 pounds of meat was served.
For the silent auction, many interesting items were sold, including an older model Ford Ranger pickup given by Russ Lee, which went for $800.
