Lester Prairie's building construction tops more than $2 million for 2001

By Julie Yurek

More than $2 million worth of buildings were constructed in Lester Praire in 2001, according to Paul Waldron and Associates, the city's building inspector.

Three single family homes valued at $456,000, four townhomes valued at $484,000, and three new commericial buildings valued at $1,002,000 were built last year, Waldron said.

Other significant areas of valuation were moved in houses valued at $163,000, four reroofing at a value of $73,750, and two housing remodels valued at $61,000, Waldron said.

The total for residential, commericial, and public building was $2,467,150, he said.

"Permit value is used to make the calculations," Waldron said.

Waldron also discussed the fee for a "change out permit." For example, a change out permit would be needed when replacing or changing out a water heater.

The fee for this permit is currently $45.50. Due to a state law change, that fee will go down to $15.50, Waldron said.

This will have little impact, since few of these kinds of permits are generally issued, he said.
