LP youth faces charges from shooting incident
By Julie Yurek
Several charges were leveled against a 16-year-old Lester Prairie youth Wednesday in connection with the shooting of another juvenile last week.
Benjamin Keith Berry is being held at the McLeod County Jail with bail set at $30,000. He is scheduled to appear in court March 4.
He is facing numerous counts related to the non-fatal shooting of Ryan Fiecke, 16, Feb. 17.
The shooting occurred 9:40 p.m. at an upstairs apartment in the area of Juniper Street North.
Fiecke was shot in the neck with a handgun, according to a police report issued by Robert Carlson of the Lester Prairie Police Department.
He went to the Dodge House bar to tell his mother he was shot, Carlson said.
Fiecke was taken to Ridgeview Medical Center at Waconia, and later transported to Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis.
He was released from the hospital Tuesday.
The handgun used in the shooting was registered as a stolen weapon, and was taken during a burglary, said Assistant County Attorney Amy Olson.
Berry came into possession of the gun after it was stolen, Olson said.
Charges filed against Berry include felony possession of a firearm, second degree assault, and receiving stolen property.
Patrick Goggins of New Prague, who is a public defender for McLeod County, will represent Berry.
A motion was submitted to the court to certify Berry as an adult.
Previously, Berry was convicted to two felonies for vehicle theft and second degree burglary in 2000.
