Pregnant woman fatally stabbed at Lester Prairie trailer court
By Ryan Gueningsman
Two stabbings from a domestic dispute resulted in the deaths of a six-month pregnant woman and her unborn child at the Lester Prairie Mobile Park Dec. 29.
Lester Prairie police officers arrived at the mobile court, where they found a male and a female with multiple stab wounds.
The female, Laura Vazquez-Ruelas, 26, of Lester Prairie, was deceased and had multiple stab wounds to the chest and neck, according to the police report.
The male, Sergio Sanchez-Diaz, 23, also of Lester Prairie, had a faint pulse.
He was taken to Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia by ambulance, and was later transferred to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was treated and then released.
In a statement given to police, Sanchez-Diaz admitted to becoming angry with Vazquez-Ruelas because she no longer wished to be with him.
The couple had an argument, Vazquez-Ruelas threw a knife at him, and Sanchez-Diaz indicated that he took that knife and stabbed her.
He also admitted to taking a second knife and inflicting wounds upon himself.
Sanchez-Diaz is being held at the McLeod County Jail.
Sanchez-Diaz was charged with one count of murder in the second degree - intentional, with a maximum penalty of 40 years imprisonment, and one charge of murder in the second degree unborn child, which carries an equal penalty.
Vazquez-Ruelas had a nine-month-old daughter, Adrian Sanchez.
A Mass of Christian burial was Saturday at Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe.
