Driver wipes out street light poleBy Lynda Jensen One of Howard Lake's new light poles was demolished Tuesday morning when a driver on Highway 12 jumped the curb, crossed and took out the pole. William R. Clatt, 54, of Willmar was driving a 1999 Ford Ranger eastbound into town at 5:26 a.m. when he hit the curve in front of Swanson Peterson Funeral Home, jumped the curb, and struck the light pole there. The accident tore off one of Clatt's headlights, which was in the grass with other superficial pieces of his vehicle. He did not ask for a tow and left in his own vehicle, commented Tom Sullivan of Tom's Towing in Howard Lake. The pole was completely demolished and is valued at about $15,000. |
