McLeod County Fair begins Friday

The 2003 McLeod County Fair will take place Friday through Tuesday, Aug. 15-19 at the McLeod County Fairgrounds, 131 St. in Hutchinson.

Each evening five vehicle tickets will be drawn and made eligible for a grand prize vehicle give-away Tuesday evening.

Midway hours for the fair are:

Friday 5-11 p.m.

Saturday noon-11 p.m.

Sunday 1-11 p.m.

Monday 1-11 p.m.

Tuesday 1-11 p.m.

The following is a sample of highlighted events:

Daily helicopter rides.

Daily 4-H exhibits.

Daily midway entertainment provided by Gopher State Expositions.

Saturday, Aug. 16

9 a.m. - Clowns on the Corporate Stage.

11 a.m. - The Cogley Sisters on the Corporate State.

Sunday, Aug. 17

9:30 a.m. - Riverside Assembly of God featuring the Knights at the Show Arena.

1 p.m. - Fun-Horse show.

1 p.m. - Square dancing on the America's Promise Stage.

1 p.m. - Talent contest at the Show Arena.

6 p.m. - Open demolition derby

Monday, Aug. 18

11:15 a.m. - Tricia and the Toonies on the Promise Stage.

12 p.m. - Kit and Kaboodle on the Promise Stage.

4:15 to 6 p.m. - Science Museum on the Promise Stage.

7 p.m. - McLeod County tractor pull at the Grandstand.

Tuesday, Aug. 19

11 a.m. - Minnesota Zoo Mobile on the Promise Stage.

12 p.m. - Splatter Sisters on the America's Promise Stage.

1 p.m. - Minnesota Zoo Mobile on the America's Promise Stage.

2 p.m. - Veggie Races on the America's Promise Stage.

3 p.m. - Minnesota Percussion Trio on the Promise Stage.

4 p.m. - Pedal pull.

7 p.m. - Demolition derby.

9:30 p.m. - Drawing for the Habitat for Humanity Playhouse.

10 p.m. - Grand prize drawing for a 2003 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck.

Advance sale midway ride ticket books are on sale at 24 locations throughout McLeod County.

The ticket books are on sale at the following local locations:

Winsted ­ Kremer Pharmacy and Dueber's Variety;

Lester Prairie ­ The Depot and First Community Bank;

Silver Lake ­ Shamla's Marathon Express and First Community Bank.

Each book has 25 tickets for $15 (60 cents per ticket) when purchased in advance. Tickets purchased at a midway ticket booth will cost 75 cents per ticket. Purchasing a ticket book in advance would be a savings of $3.75 for 25 tickets per book, or 15 cents per ticket.

Advance sale midway ride ticket books will also be available at the McLeod County Fair office one week prior to the fair. There will not be any armband or other midway specials during the fair.
