Howard Lake woman dreams of the country music scene

By Ryan Gueningsman

Country singing is a dream for Tammy Reinke of Howard Lake, but she is one step closer to making it reality with a rare award for her talent.

Reinke recently participated in  and won  a Best New Talent Award competition at Ridgedale.

"I love country, and contemporary music," Reinke said.

The Best New Talent Award is similar to American Idol and Star Search, Reinke said.

The first time she sang at Ridgedale in front of judges, she sang a one-minute version of The Judds' song "Love Can Build a Bridge," and was told afterwards that she "captivated the judges."

This was done without back up singers or any kind of accompaniment, but she wasn't nervous, she said.

She received a call-back to sing again at the Sheraton Minneapolis West. There she performed the same song, based on judges recommendations.

After she performed, she was notified that she was one of 20 Minnesota people selected to advance to the next level of competition at the Century Plaza Hotel in Beverly Hills, Cali.

Reinke is a 1985 graduate of Maple Lake High School, and currently works in home health  in the nursing field.
