Inspection reveals asbestosBy Jody Anderson An inspection revealed the presence of non-friable asbestos under the various floor coverings in the building that will soon house the new Howard Lake city offices. Non-friable asbestos is not dangerous unless ground into dust, but with ongoing remodeling activities there exists a potential health risk which must be removed. A motion was unanimously passed appointing Mayor Gerry Smith and City Administrator Kelly Bahn as official council representatives for the collection of information and the determination of a solution. Councilman Terry Ostgulen noted that both the council and the architect “should have known” this was a possibility and should have allowed for this contingency in the proposed budget. Councilman Tom Kutz agreed. |
