Two local girls to vie for dairy crown

By Lynda Jensen

Two Howard Lake girls will be vying for the crown at the 49th annual Wright County Dairy Princess banquet Saturday, March 27 at the Annandale High School.

Mandi Stifter and Amy Kozitka are two of four candidates for the princess crown. Tricia Uecker of Annandale and Shandi Pawelk of Maple Lake are also competing for the title of dairy princess.

Last year, when four girls competed, two were named dairy princesses and the other two were named ambassadors. Kozitka will be returning, since she served as ambassador last year.

Current royalty includes: Princess Danielle Sonsteby, Ambassador Heather Klatt, Ambassador Amy Kozitka, and Princess Sarah Dennis.

The evening will begin with a social hour at 7:30 p.m. and the meal following at 8 p.m. The coronation of the 2004-05 Wright County dairy princesses and ambassadors will follow the meal.

The banquet is sponsored by the Wright County American Dairy Association.

The following is a candidate profile:

Amy Kozitka

Amy Kozitka is the daughter of Wayne and Lorrie and resides in Howard Lake.

She attends St. Cloud State University where she is majoring in pre-vet.

Kozitka works for Melvin and Ardis Kottke, where they milk 40 Holsteins.

She enjoys playing volleyball, basketball, and softball, as well as being a 4-H Leader and being in the Pre-Vet Society.

Her favorite dairy product is ice cream because it comes in many different flavors and you can add many different toppings.

Kozitka would like to be a Wright County dairy princess so she can continue to represent the dairy farmers of Wright County and to promote the dairy industry and its products.

If she could invite any person past or present to dinner she would bring her grandparents because they have given her so much through out her life as well as the great opportunity to help on their farm.

Mandi Stifter

Mandi Stifter is the daughter of Matt and Cyndi resides in Howard Lake.

She is a senior at the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted High School and helps on her family’s farm, where they milk around 40 Jerseys.

Stifter enjoys volleyball, dance, and being in the spring play, as well as being the president of the Sunrise 4-H club.

Her favorite dairy product is milk because it is so good and you can enjoy other things with it.

Mandi would like to be a Wright County dairy princess so she can represent the dairy breeders and because the dairy industry has been such a huge part of her life thus far and she wants it to continue to be so.

If she could invite any person past or present to dinner she would invite Princess Diana because Diana always tried to help others.

Tricia Uecker

Tricia Uecker is the daughter of John and Cathy and resides in Annandale.

She is a senior in high school, and works on her family’s farm, where they milk around 45 Holsteins and run about 450 acres.

Uecker is involved in band, jazz band, and marching band, as well as gymnastics and track.

Hobbies include riding horse and babysitting. Her favorite dairy product is ice cream because it is so good and is a perfect snack in the summer and goes with everything.

Uecker would like to be a Wright County dairy princess because it is something she has always wanted to do, and because of the decreasing dairy farms she would like to be able to promote dairy farming. She loves the idea of being a part of something that not everyone might have the opportunity to do.

If she could invite any person past or present to dinner she would bring her old friend who she lost to a car accident last year, just to talk with him one more time and see how he is doing.

Shandi Pawelk

Shandi Pawelk is the daughter of Dan and Michele and resides in Maple Lake.

She is in her first year of college where she is studying nursing.

She also helps on her family’s farm where they milk around 75 cows a mixture of Holsteins, Aryshire, and Brown Swiss, as well as running 290 acres.

Pawelk has been involved for the past 10-plus years in 4-H and dance, and also enjoys cheerleading for wrestling.

Her favorite dairy product is ice cream because she loves it; it soothes your throat, and tastes very well. You can also eat it after you get your tonsils out!

Pawelk would like to be a Wright County dairy princess because growing up on her family’s farm she loved to help out and work with the cows. Also being in 4-H she has had people ask her about the dairy industry and she shares what she knows so she thought what a better way to support dairy farmers by running for dairy princess.

If she could invite any person past or present to dinner she would invite her brother Tyler who died when she was 10 and he was 1-1/2. She loved him and would want to know him, what he is like, and how he looks.
