City kicks in some cash for Good Neighbor Days
By Jody Anderson
The city will once again be helping to sponsor Good Neighbor Days this year, with a contribution of $1,500 toward events, according to action at the Howard Lake council Tuesday.
Chairman of Good Neighbor Days Sam Gruenhagen petitioned the council for help funding the community celebration, citing last year's council contribution of $3,000 as an example.
He informed them that although the sales of buttons, raffles, and the entries from fishing contests were helpful, the amount gathered was still not enough.
Upon consultation of city funds, a motion was unanimously carried to donate $1,500 to the fund.
Turning to other subjects, the council also heard from Howard Lake Police Officer Dan Lang, who issued the January police report, with special mention of the year's review of the police department K-9 program.
Officers Lang and Tim Sonnek attended a seminar in Austin, Texas.
Felony, the drug dog, also attended special narcotics training. Lang expressed optimism as to future "sniffs" with Felony.
"We've gotten to know each other much better, and are having much greater success reading Felony," he commented.
