Pastor’s Column, 6/6/05

The other day, I was moving a neatly stacked pile of 2x4s with a skidloader.

Moving quite slowly to keep the pile from tipping, I had nearly reached my destination when, as I turned, the end of the 2x4s caught a log and in an instant, nearly the entire pile was in disarray.

Seniors, beware! You have had parents, teachers, pastors, Sunday school teachers, and realtives who have been trying to help you neatly order your life. As you experience the freedom of school’s out, remember it only takes one foolish turn of not being watchful to mess up your life.

Now, if you have already messed up your life, there is still hope. Every human being has taken turns without being watchful and has sinned. Thank God, we have a Savior in Jesus who forgives when we repent and trust Him.

1John2:1-2 says, “My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense – Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours, but also for the sins of the whole world.”

God doesn’t want us to take wrong turns and sin, but He knows we will, so He has provided His Son’s sacrifice for our sin.

So, watch those turns! Make your decisions consulting God’s Word. When you do sin, as we all will, bring it to Jesus and you will find forgiveness.
