Fixing Humpty Dumpty

By Pastor Paul Friberg, Berean Baptist Church, Glencoe

You probably heard the nursery rhyme as a child.

After falling from a wall, Humpty Dumpty was broken beyond repair. Sadly, “All the king’s horses and all the king’s men couldn’t put Humpty together again.”

There are many broken Humpty Dumpty people in this world. Their hearts are broken from a shattered relationship, a fractured marriage, a crushing business failure.

You may be such a person. And, as you sit amidst the fractured pieces of your life, you may feel that hope is gone. How could anyone put the pieces back together?

Here’s good news: the Bible tells us, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).

And his promise is, “I will...bind up the broken...” (Ezekiel 34:16). The King of Kings can put the pieces back together!

Every one of us has fallen. We are broken by sin – our rebellion against God.

But God has provided the fix. On the cross, Jesus’ body and heart were broken as he suffered the penalty for our sin. He died to fix the humanly unfixable – our broken relationship with God.

Jesus knows all about being broken, and he stands ready to heal your brokenness. But you must receive his healing.

The Bible invites you to “believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31).

And God assures that “to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12).

Jesus Christ waits for you to trust him as your Lord and Savior. You only need to ask him to enter your life, to forgive you and fix your broken relationship with God.

Jesus fixes broken lives. He can fix yours – just give him a chance.
