Assisted living arrives in Winsted
By Ryan Gueningsman
An assisted living facility can now be found in Winsted, with a change in management of Lindenwood Apartments.
St. Mary’s Care Center took over management of the 40-unit apartment complex Oct. 5, and is in the process of establishing an assisted living program.
Under its new management, the facility can now provide 24/7 assisted living services, as well as a meal service program for its residents, said St. Mary’s Administrator Andy Opsahl, adding that this is something St. Mary’s has been interested in for some time.
Assisted living is a housing facility designed for those who need extra help in their day-to-day lives, but who do not require the 24-hour nursing care found in nursing homes.
There has been a huge need for assisted living services in Winsted, Opsahl said, noting market research that has been done stating the desire for it.
St. Mary’s Care Center takes over management from Van Binsbergen and Associates, which had operated the facility for a short time.
“The board is very pleased with how it’s happening,” said board president Helen Yager.
Kathy Habisch will remain as the on-site manager, with April Anderson being the director of health care services. For those that currently reside at Lindenwood and do not want assisted living features, the change in management should affect them very little, it was noted.
