By Ryan Gueningsman
A Winsted teen is recovering from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle car accident June 11 between Winsted and Silver Lake.
Ruth Anne Chilson, 16, suffered the amputation of her left arm, and also has fractures in her neck, back, and left leg as a result of the crash. She has undergone several surgeries recently at Gillette Hospital in St. Paul. She is mentally alert and recognizing her family.
Chilson was driving on 240th Street (McLeod County Road 5), and rolled her vehicle several times near Garden Avenue, according to the McLeod County Sheriff’s Department. A registered nurse was one of the first people on the scene of the accident, and phoned for help.
Chilson was transported by Silver Lake Ambulance with Hutchinson ambulance personnel to the Hutchinson Hospital, and was then airlifted to Regions Hospital.
The Silver Lake and Winsted police departments, Silver Lake and Winsted fire departments, and the Minnesota State Patrol all assisted the McLeod County Sheriff’s Department at the scene of the crash.
