Dura Supreme expanding again
By Darla Swanson
For the sixth time, the largest employer in Wright County Dura Supreme Cabinetry of Howard Lake is underway with yet another expansion.
Growth is prompting the business to expand its facilities at its location on the south side of Highway 12, just east of Howard Lake.
A 24,000-square-foot heated warehouse was recently completed, while footings were poured in the fall for a 26,000-square-foot addition to the main manufacturing facility. The addition to the main facility will be used for additional manufacturing space as well as limited office space.
The addition, once completed in the spring, will expand the business from its original 80,000-square-foot structure to a 220,000 square foot facility.
Vice President Roy Scherer stated that the construction will not interrupt regular business at Dura Supreme. A temporary wall will keep workspace and construction separate. “Twenty-six thousand more feet will enable us to continue to grow here,” Scherer said.
Scherer explained that the expansion is good for business, and good for the Howard Lake area.
“The increased manufacturing space will enable us to increase our capacity and, ultimately, our sales . . . (and) it’s going to bring more jobs to the community, which is a plus,” he said.
The business, which was first located in Fridley, is more than 40 years old, and has flourished in Howard Lake since 1980.
The company specializes in making upper scale cabinetry for all rooms in the home. Items manufactured there have already been ordered from customers through vendors or other means, and oftentimes are custom made.
Dura Supreme distributes to all 50 states in the US and sells through about 650 dealers nationwide.
The facility located in Howard Lake is the company’s headquarters, and employs approximately 515 people.
