New office for Edward Jones rep Ron Beckman

Ron Beckman of Dassel is an Investment Representative with Edward Jones. He has a new office in Cokato at 115 Olsen Blvd., Ste. 600. Beckman also has an assistant, Julie Ogle of Waverly.

In April, the space previously occupied by Curves was remodeled into a professional office setting.

Beckman’s relationship with the Dassel Cokato community is more than a physical location, however.

“I grew up in the area,” Beckman said. “Aligning with Edward Jones gave me an opportunity to have my own office and serve Dassel Cokato and the surrounding communities,” he said.

Beckman is a 1974 Dassel Cokato High School graduate. His wife, Rise´ also is a Cokato native.

In 2003, when Beckman was a sales manager at Heartland Hybrids of Dassel, his older brother, Rick Beckman, was killed in a car accident. His brother worked at First National Bank of Cokato, and had a passion for serving the community, Beckman said.

It was a defining moment for Beckman. Five months following his brother’s death, Beckman resigned from Heartland with the goal of having a financial service office to serve the people of the Dassel Cokato area, too.

“I like helping people of all ages,” Beckman said.

Beckman selected Edward Jones for a career change because the founders, Edward Jones and his son, Ted, had a passion for farms and rural communities. Originally, the Joneses started in St. Louis. They drove out into the rural areas and collected investment orders from people on farms and in small towns who didn’t have the opportunity to invest as city people did. Then they brought the orders back to the city and invested them for their rural customers, Beckman said.

Edward Jones now has more than 9,000 offices nationwide, he said.

Beckman grew up on a farm south of Dassel. He also operated a dairy farm for 16 years. He could relate to the company’s concern for rural communities.

Beckman also was impressed with how Edward Jones instilled professionalism and investment know-how in its representatives. The training was extensive and rigorous, even though Beckman already had a degree in finance from St. Cloud State University.

Beckman took classes from Edward Jones in St. Louis and Tempe, Ariz.

“I’m an investment to them,” Beckman added.

Beckman advises his clients about the rules of investing, such as starting with quality investments like high-rated bonds, blue chip stock, and quality mutual funds. It’s important for his clients to stay diversified and invest for the long term.

“Always do what’s best for the client,” is Edward Jones’ motto, he said.

For example, a lot depends on the client’s age. Older clients usually want to preserve their principal. Younger clients need to set up goals and a time frame to achieve those goals.

Beckman also “walks the talk,” he said. He does extensive research on investments for his clients, and will not invest his clients’ money where he would not invest his.

Edward Jones emphasizes sound financial advice and quality investments, he said.
