From China to Delano

By Kelsey Linden
Staff Writer

Since 2004, Delano National Honor Society began sending students to China over spring break.

After several years of traveling back and forth, Chinese students are here once again to stay with Delano High School students.

Lanette Faul, advisor of the National Honor Society program, worked with Leo Pospichal to get this program up and running. The two wanted NHS to be apart of something that would grow and prosper from years to come. It has.

Along with NHS students, teachers from the school district were asked to come along for the trip as chaperones. China has made a huge impact on teachers like Lindsay Wallace, Pospichal, Faul, Toni Clifton, and Neva Strobner. Mandy Berggren and John Bingea are joining the students this upcoming Spring Break on the trip to China.

Last March, seniors Stephanie Kuka, Katherine Gregg, Elizabeth Dake, Catherine Newcomb and Kelsey Linden traveled to China, and each stayed with their own host family.

Nearly eight months later, the same students from the host families are coming here to stay with students traveling next March: Aaron Bingea, Angela Nelson, Benjamin Zeug, Tanya Wacholz, Ashley Oeffling and Melissa Halvorsen.

Look out for the Chinese culture this week at DHS and around the Delano community.
