BUILD, WISE invited to debate
With the upcoming HLWW building referendum approaching, the Herald Journal has scheduled a public debate session to air out all the reasons for and against passing the referendum.
Members of the BUILD (Build Unity In Laker District) and WISE (We Insist on Sound Education) have been invited to debate the issue publicly. Invitations to each committee were made last week by certified mail, email, and telephone.
The debate will be Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Winsted Legion Club. Former State Rep. Tony Kielkucki of Lester Prairie will serve as moderator.
The event is scheduled to include opening statements from both committees, a series of prepared questions, and time for questions from the audience. A 90-minute time limit is set.
Each committee is invited to provide up to three representatives to answer the questions.
The referendum will be Tueday, Feb. 21 at which time district residents will be asked to vote on a $27.3 million bond issue to finance a new high school located between Winsted and Howard Lake, plus additions and maintenace for the elementary schools in Winsted and Waverly.
A second question asks for an additional $460,000 for overflow event parking, storage, and technology improvements.
