Fire destroys barn in Franklin Twp.

A fire that is being considered suspicious destroyed a barn in Franklin Township last Monday around 3:30 p.m.

The Delano Fire Department responded to a report of a fire in the area of Dague Avenue, just west of Delano and south of Highway 12, according to Fire Chief Bob Van Lith.

When the department arrived at the scene of the fire, it found the barn totally engulfed in flames, Van Lith said.

The barn was destroyed, but the fire department was able to save several sheds that were on the property from being burned, as well as a trailer home.

The owner of the property, John Kanz, told authorities he had been storing old tractor parts on the property, and does own a junk yard elsewhere. No one lived on the property.

Van Lith called for mutual aid from the Montrose and Watertown fire departments, and said firefighters spent three-and-a-half hours at the scene of the fire.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, which remains under investigation by authorities.
