Unknown projectiles strike vehicles on Hwy 7
By Dave Cox
One area resident received a scare Monday, when his driver’s side window was shattered while he was driving eastbound on Highway 7 west of the Hollywood Ranch House.
Sgt. Mark Williams of the Carver County Sheriff’s Office stated that at 12:45 p.m., The carver County Sheriff’s Office received a call from George Schwinghammer of Dassel.
Williams said that Schwinghammer reported that his driver’s side window shattered as he was passing a westbound red pickup truck.
Schwinghammer, who had been on his way to the airport, drove to Winsted to drop off his vehicle at his place of employment, and then continued on his way to the airport, Williams said.
A deputy was dispatched to Winsted to take photos of the vehicle. No evidence was found in the vehicle.
Just prior to Schwinghammer’s report, three similar incidents were reported on Highway 7 near County Rd. 44 in Hennepin County.
Law enforcement officers in Hennepin and Carver Counties responded to reports of possible shots fired at vehicles on Highway 7, according to the Minnetrista Police Department.
Three vehicles travelling eastbound on Highway 7 were struck by “unknown projectiles,” and windows on the driver’s side of the vehicles were broken.
No one was injured in the incidents.
None of the drivers were able to tell where the projectiles came from, but they did report hearing a popping sound, followed by glass shattering.
A red pickup truck was observed travelling westbound on Highway 7 at the time of the incidents.
Because the incidents took place next to a wooded area, officers from neighboring law enforcement agencies assisted and the woods were searched. Nothing was found.
Lieutenant Dave Kolb of the Minnetrista Police Department said investigators hope someone will call police with information about the case.
Those with information about the incidents are encouraged to contact the Minnetrista Police Department (952) 446-1131.
