Scooters now open in Lester Prairie

The new owners of Scooters in Lester Prairie are determined to provide the things that their customers want.

Joyce “Scooter” Paul of Shakopee, and Crystal Dayton and Mike Buesgens, both of Mayer, recently purchased the business in the former Jonio’s building at 524 Central Avenue.

Dayton previously owned a restaurant and managed a bar in Colorado, and is the only member of the group with bar and restaurant experience.

The bar is open for business, and the group plans to open the restaurant portion, as well as an off-sale liquor store, in September or October.

The bar hours are 10 a.m. to 1 a.m., and the restaurant is expected to be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Pull tabs to return to LP

Paul said Scooters will be taking over the Lions Club pull tabs operation that was housed at the former Porthole bar.

“We want to give back to the community, and if people support us, we want to support them,” she said.

The pull tabs will be added once the necessary license has been obtained, she added.

Bar food, including hors d’oevres’ and burgers will be available in the bar, even after the restaurant closes, Paul said

The off sale will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Paul said that they have spent “a lot of sleepless nights,” as they prepared to open the new business, but said they have hired a lot of people that they already knew, and this has made the process easier.

The group plans to ask customers to fill out surveys during the first couple months of operation to help them determine what features and activities people are interested in.

The bar will feature a happy hour Monday to Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

The restaurant will also feature nightly specials.

The owners hope to have pool and darts tournaments, and eventually will sponsor men’s and women’s softball and bowling teams.

They also plan to add TVs so customers can watch sporting events.

Dayton owns Sunset Sounds, a karaoke business, and they will feature karaoke, probably on Thursday nights, and will also provide the service if large groups come in and request it.

The owners are still working on interior improvements. The bar features two murals that were painted by Dayton’s sister, Dellene Kleinsaucer.

Future plans include adding a banquet room downstairs, and an outdoor enclosed patio.

Scooters’ phone number is (320) 395-0100.
