Winsted's Strom named McLeod County Officer of the Year
By Dave Cox
Winsted Police Officer Glen Strom was presented with the officer of the year award by the McLeod County Police and Peace Officers Association (MCPPOA) at its annual banquet March 4.
Strom was nominated for the award by Winsted Police Chief Mike Henrich.
In his letter of recommendation, Henrich listed three categories of achievement where Strom has demonstrated caring for his fellow officers, caring for his community, and caring enough to do the right thing.
Henrich said that Strom:
• set up and implemented a field training officer program for the Winsted Police Department.
• helped organize the MCPPOA, and has served as president of that organization since its inception.
• organized a national Night Out program for the City of Winsted.
Henrich said that Strom also works for his community during his off-duty hours, including volunteering his time to participate in the Christmas shopping with a cop program.
Strom has used good judgement and done the right thing in the line of duty, he said.
“I am truly proud of Officer Strom’s accomplishments in 2005,” Henrich said.
Strom is a Winsted resident and has been a member of the Winsted Police Department since April 2003.
Strom is the field training officer and the crime prevention lead for the department.
Also during the banquet, Glencoe officer Lt. Wyatt Bienfang received the MCPPOA President’s Award.
Honorable mention awards went to Glencoe Officer Craig Losure; Hutchinson Officers Chief Daniel Hatten, Officer Steve Sickmann, Officer Shelby Franklin; and McLeod County deputies Sgt. Aaron Ward, Deputy Pat Gieken, and Deputy Paul Schermann.
