Things we never thought we’d say

By JEN BAKKEN

There are times when we say something to the children in our lives and think, “Did I just say that?”

I’ve compiled a list of some of those things we never thought we’d say.

We never thought we’d say;

“Who put dirty socks in the Easter basket?”

“Stop licking the cat.”

“No, you can’t wear Dracula teeth to school.”

Or, “We don’t stick grilled cheese in the VCR.”

We never thought we’d say;

“Who keeps putting things in the toilet?”

“Stop playing in the cat litter box.”

“No, Vaseline does not go in your hair.”

Or, “We can’t keep Box Elder bugs as pets.”

We never thought we’d say;

“Who left underwear in the backyard?”

“Stop putting boogers on the wall.”

“No, you shouldn’t put a fork in the electrical outlet.”

Or, “We are supposed to use toilet paper when we poop.”

We never thought we’d say;

“Who put macaroni and cheese in between the couch cushions?”

“Stop using your toothbrush on the dog.”

“No, sea monkeys will not grow big enough to play with, that’s just a picture.”

Or, “We don’t wear pajamas in the bathtub.”

We never thought we’d say;

“Who put orange juice in their cereal?”

“Stop telling the teacher your mom doesn’t get second grade math.”

“No, mixing ice cream with tuna is not cooking.”

Or, “We can’t put the cat in the shower.”

We never thought we’d say;

“Who put a Barbie in the microwave?”

“Stop eating sand out of the sandbox.”

“No, I’m sorry, I can’t call and invite the Power Rangers over for lunch.”

Or, “We can’t put your little sister in the dryer.”

Leave it to those tiny tigers for making us say . . . things we never thought we’d say.

Tiny Tales is a column dedicated to children in our community, and the times when they create a wonderful story to tell. Whether you are a parent, grandparent, family member, caregiver, teacher or anyone with a child in your life . . . there’s always a tiny tale to tell.

It may be cute or funny things a child has said or done. Any of those endearing moments you love to share with others, and people, like me, enjoy reading.

Here in Delano we are proud of our community, our schools and our children . . . why not have a column about our little ‘tigers’?

You can e-mail your tiny tales to; jbakken@hjpub.com, fax them to 763-972-1029 or mail them to Tiny Tales, 430 Hwy 12 E. Suite 4, PO Box 498, Delano, MN 55328.
