Can’t believe spring is already here

By Aaron Schultz

It was just over a week ago and I was down at Williams Arena covering the high school state basketball tournament.

The next thing I know, I have softball games to get to this week for pictures, and spring previews coming up in next week’s newspaper.

Where has the time gone? It doesn’t seem like it was all that long ago we had a huge blizzard, and now I am going to baseball practice, and getting ready to watch softball games.

Don’t get me wrong, I am very excited for spring, and am happy it is here. I just can’t believe we are here already.

Spring is always a busy time, actually the busiest time of year for me.

Okay, I won’t go into another long column about how busy I am, I know more than one of you who read this column that could do without that.

But, the fact of the matter is, I am pretty busy, and am not always great at managing my time.

Time management – ah yes, not a sweeter pair of words could grace my bosses’ ears.

Since day one at Herald Journal, my boss Chris Schultz has preached to me to manage my time better.

While I have listened, I haven’t always followed his instructions as well as I would have liked.

Still, my time management has become better through the years.

As we roll into April, my time management will be put to the maximum test with high school baseball, town team baseball, and a very busy work schedule.

If it was just coaching high school baseball, and playing town team baseball, like it was for me several years ago, it wouldn’t be too tough.

But, as the head baseball coach at Lester Prairie, my responsibilities are expanded. Not only do I have to worry about the varsity squad, I also have the junior varsity, and junior high programs to deal with, and make sure they are operating the way I would like them to.

Luckily, in this day and age when it is tough to find coaches, I have some good ones to help me out, and really care about the kids.

Then you throw in being co-manager of the Winsted Wildcats, and all of those responsibilities.

Okay, my co-manager Neil Schlagel has been doing most of that work to date, and I am very thankful.

However, that season begins Saturday, April 21 and we have a long ways to go before we will be ready for the season.

When am I going to find the time in April?

Alright, Easter weekend is coming up, and a holiday weekend is always a good time to get reorganized, and ready to go.

That, along with some better time management, and it will all go as smoothly as I envision. I’m sure.
