Howard Lake Business Association to host expo

To promote the advancement of businesses in the community and to show appreciation to the community and its residents, the Howard Lake Business Association is hosting its annual business expo March 17.

The doors open at 9 a.m. at the high school in Howard Lake with more than 80 exhibitors and a free pancake and sausage breakfast.

The breakfast, which consists of pancakes, sausages, coffee and milk, is prepared and served by the business association members and other volunteers.

“The labor is volunteer,” Howard Lake Association President Duane Burkstrand said.

The breakfast is a popular event and draws a good crowd. Last year approximately 1,200 people were served, Burkstrand noted.

The free breakfast is a token of appreciation to the community members, Burkstrand added. Admission to the expo is also free.

Although the expo is composed of primarily businesses from the Howard Lake area, businesses from an approximate 15-mile radius, including Winsted, Waverly, Montrose, Cokato, Watertown, and Delano will be represented, business association member Dennis Frey noted.

Expo attendees can also enjoy musical entertainment, a miniature farm machinery display, and a food court with local vendors will be part of the expo doings as well.

A food shelf drive is also part of the expo’s agenda this year, in which people have an opportunity to support the food shelf and make donations.

Burkstrand noted that the expo is an opportunity to show appreciation to the community members as well as promoting the area businesses. Frey agreed.

“It’s (the expo) an inexpensive way for exhibitors to show what they do and what services they offer,” Frey said. “It promotes businesses in the community and brings the community together.”

The expo begins at 9 a.m. with the breakfast and exhibits. Breakfast is served until 12:30 p.m. and the expo runs until 1 p.m.

For more information on the expo, contact Duane Burkstrand at (320) 543-3171.

The Howard Lake Business Association meets the third Wednesday of each month at the noon hour. For more information on the association, contact any of the officers.
