The Wright County Board was faced with an unusual situation Tuesday; a request for a temporary 3.2 beer license on public waters.

“This is a unique item. It is the first time I have seen something like this,” Auditor-Treasurer Bob Hiivala said.

The subject was a one-day temporary 3.2 beer license requested by the Maple Lake Lake Property Owners’ Association for a non-profit ice fishing contest Saturday, Jan. 26.

“The event is in the middle of a lake, so the townships and the city felt they didn’t have jurisdiction,” Hiivala said.

The board approved the one day permit, and a license fee of $50 for the event.

Odds and ends
